When you think of antioxidants do you think of green tea, red wine, blueberries and cranberry juice? Pomegranate juice is higher in natural antioxidants than all four. Pomegranate juice is delicious, versatile and offers a strong tangy sweet flavor and a bright deep red color. Rochester's Good Food Store has featured pomegranates in food sample demos including pomegranate guacamole, pomegranate punch and Naked juice's new Pomegranate Açaí . It's great as a sorbet and mixes well with other juices. Some of us like to sip pure pomegranate juice all day long.
How much pomegranate juice should you drink? I personally go through a half gallon of Naked brand plain pomegranate juice (24 pomegranates) every week which amounts to just over 8 oz per day. Check out this Herbs for Health article and the All About Pomegranate website. Both suggest 8 ounces per day. The Mayo Clinic reports that pomegranate may lower cholesterol. This article points out that most studies were tested on 1.5 ounces per day. They also warn one to consult a doctor especially if taking blood pressure medication.
The All about pomegranate website is very optimistic on the health benefits of pomegranates especially for people concerned with heart disease, stroke and diabetes. They point to a study on Web MD that reports pomegranates may lower blood pressure and describe other claims as well.
VIGOR will be selling Naked brand pomegranate juice at Rochester Fest 2006.
